3/4 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 cup molasses
4 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp ginger
3/4 cup cold water
2 cups raisins
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and molasses. Add dry ingredients and water. Fold in raisins. Drop by teaspoon, on greased cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes in 325 deg F oven.
Note: If short on eggs, add an extra cup of water; they are still good cookies.

2 tsp soda
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp salt
3 cups flour
Blend all dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. Add molasses. Blend mixture together. Knead and roll to approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Cover with wax paper and store in refrigerator. As required, slice very thinly. Bake 8 minutes in 375 deg F oven.
