As usual I always find things to interest me there.</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Yesterday was no different. White Suckers were spawning in  </span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">a small brook in the Park.</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">The brook consists of a series of stillwaters through meadows</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">broken up by short rocky runs between the meadows. The runs</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">are in the order of 1 - 2 meters wide with maximum water depth</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">of about 15 cm..</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">An old road or trail goes to a couple of short bridges over the runs.</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Fortunately the powers that be have not seen any reason to "improve"</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">the road so the path that remains is delightful. The big blow put down</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">some trees in a few places but while they would stop motor vehicles</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">are no difficulty to those of us on foot.</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Sitting on the little bridges it is easy to see the suckers going by. Usually</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">a larger one 25 - 30 cm followed by 3 or 4 smaller ones. Often the fins will</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">be out of water in the shallow spots. They must deposit a lot of nutrients</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">for the river life.</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">An other interesting thing I noted was little oak seedlings in the area where</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">the park done a controlled burn a few years ago.  The next generation.</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">A great day - enjoy the spring</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">Paul</span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: 12pt;"> </span> </div> <div> <span style="font-size: medium;"></span> <span style="font-size: medium;"></span> </div> </body></html>
