I suspect they will continue to spread northeastward. Down here in the =
Yarmouth area they are common, now. I saw my first one the summer of =
1982 or =E2=80=9983, flying from Chebogue to Yarmouth. A former fox and =
lynx farm seemed to be an attractant. It=E2=80=99s long gone, but they =
have stayed. A couple of slaughterhouses in the area probably =
don=E2=80=99t hurt. Hate to say it, but better vultures than eagles =
(which are also increasing in abundance, while the reverse applies to =
ospreys). =20

Turkey Vultures

I reported the one near St. Peter's. Several days later I saw it again =
about a mile away. They are the first I've seen in this area this year, =
but the last few years they've been seen once or twice a year, often =
after a big wind. They are still a good bird for this area, any many =
local birders haven't seen one.=20

I just looked on eBird. There have been sighting from both Cape Breton =
and Newfoundland! Although not as frequent as in the southwest part of =
the mainland, they do not appear to be rare. In the case of Cape Breton =
the sightings have mostly been along the coast but have covered the =
entire island. Within the last 30 days there were two sightings, one =
near Mabou, and one near St. Peters. =20

Hi all:

I'm not overly familiar with the frequency of sightings for turkey =
vultures in Cape Breton. Someone on October 11 sighted one at the Canso =
Causeway and asked me if sightings are frequent or common there. I'm =
not able to respond to how often turkey vultures are seen in Cape Breton =
unless I get input from locals. I've not visited Cape Breton enough =
times to be able to satisfactorily answer the question so your responses =
will help me also.=20
