I watched two Merlins copulating early this morning. The chattering male was a new sound to me. He was chattering slightly before flying to the perched female and during copulation. Then he and she went back to their usual shrieking. As if that wasn’t fun enough to witness, two Wood Ducks flew into some trees just down the dirt road and the male did he high-pitched squeal while the female sat in a tree about 30’ away. Then she, followed by he, flew off squawking. Both recordings in the eBird checklist below as well as descriptions.
