As well as being iconic landscapes, barrens contribute an important and his= torically overlooked part of Nova Scotia=92s natural history. These distinc= tive ecosystems are characterized by some of the harshest conditions in the= maritime provinces, but they host a great diversity of plants and lichens,= produce many edible berries, and provide habitat for a handful of species = that aren=92t found elsewhere in the Maritimes. This talk discusses current and ongoing research to describe plant communit= ies on the barrens, mapping the way plant communities are arranged on the b= arrens, and understand the diversity of plants, lichens and bee pollinators= that live there. A presentation to Nova Scotia Wild Flora Society by Biology Professor Dr. J= eremy Lundholm, PhD student Emily Walker, and research associate Caitlin Po= rter of the Ecology of Plants in Communities (EPIC) Lab, Saint Mary=92s Uni= versity. All welcome. 7:30 pm at the Museum of Natural History, Summer Street, Halif= ax in the Auditorium -- Anne Mills Lower Rose Bay Nova Scotia --_000_20180323101912593928356536149177dalca_ Content-Type: text/html; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html> <head> <meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3DWindows-1= 252"> <meta content=3D"text/html; charset=3DWindows-1252"> </head> <body style=3D"word-wrap:break-word"> <div style=3D"width:100%; font-size:initial; font-family:Calibri,'Slate Pro= ',sans-serif,sans-serif; color:rgb(31,73,125); text-align:initial; backgrou= nd-color:rgb(255,255,255)"> Monday, March 26.</div> <div style=3D"width:100%; font-size:initial; font-family:Calibri,'Slate Pro= ',sans-serif,sans-serif; color:rgb(31,73,125); text-align:initial; backgrou= nd-color:rgb(255,255,255)"> <br style=3D"display:initial"> </div> <div style=3D"font-size:initial; font-family:Calibri,'Slate Pro',sans-serif= ,sans-serif; color:rgb(31,73,125); text-align:initial; background-color:rgb= (255,255,255)"> Eric L.
