As well as being iconic landscapes, barrens contribute an important and his= torically overlooked part of Nova Scotia=92s natural history. These distinc= tive ecosystems are characterized by some of the harshest conditions in the= maritime provinces, but they host a great diversity of plants and lichens,= produce many edible berries, and provide habitat for a handful of species = that aren=92t found elsewhere in the Maritimes. This talk discusses current and ongoing research to describe plant communit= ies on the barrens, mapping the way plant communities are arranged on the b= arrens, and understand the diversity of plants, lichens and bee pollinators= that live there. A presentation to Nova Scotia Wild Flora Society by Biology Professor Dr. J= eremy Lundholm, PhD student Emily Walker, and research associate Caitlin Po= rter of the Ecology of Plants in Communities (EPIC) Lab, Saint Mary=92s Uni= versity. All welcome. 7:30 pm at the Museum of Natural History, Summer Street, Halif= ax in the Auditorium -- Anne Mills Lower Rose Bay Nova Scotia --_000_YQXPR0101MB218370F2DE11C6EEE8AB969983A90YQXPR0101MB2183_ Content-Type: text/html; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

<meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3DWindows-1= 252">
<body dir=3D"ltr"> <div id=3D"divtagdefaultwrapper" style=3D"font-size:12pt;color:#000000;font= -family:Calibri,Helvetica,sans-serif;" dir=3D"ltr"> <p style=3D"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0">

<div style=3D"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"> <hr style=3D"display:inline-block;width:98%" tabindex=3D"-1"> <div id=3D"divRplyFwdMsg" dir=3D"ltr"><font style=3D"font-size:11pt" color= =3D"#000000" face=3D"Calibri, sans-serif">From: Anne Mills <ocoti= llo8@gmail.com>
Sent: March 22, 2018 8:33 PM
To: Amber Joy Baker; Ann LaBorie; Anne Desneiges; Bernice Moores; Be= th Cameron; Beth McGee; Bethsheila Kent; Bob Kennedy; Bob McDonald; Burkhar= d Plache; Caitlin Porter; Candace MacDonald; Carl Munden; Carol Byers; Char= les Cron; Daniel Songster; Danielle Blouin; David Patriquin; Dottie Welch; Elizabeth Elson; Eric Mills; Eugene= Quigley; Gart Bishop; Gerald And Joan Ruderman; Gillian And Peter Webster;= Gini Proulx; Heather Marchione; Heidi Verheul; Helene Blanchet; Henry and = Phyllis Mann; Iain Jack; Ingrid Plache; Jeff White; Jeremy Lundholm; Jim Jotcham; John Cribb & Sandra = Blundon; John Pettigrew; Josette and Sterling Levy; Judy Amirault; Karen Wo= olhouse; Keith Vaughan; Lillian Perry; Liz Whitney; Marion Sensen; Mary Hel= leiner; Mary MacAulay; Melissa Douglas; Michael Crowell; Norris Whiston; Paris; Patricia Chalmers; Peter Hope; Rac= helle Watts; Ron Arsenault; Roxanne Brownlie; Ruth Van Iderstine; Shirley M= acIntyre; Sunetra Ekanayake; Susan Whalen; Suzanne Gauthier; Tanya Bilsbury= ; Tanya Harrison; H Wayne Garland; Wayne Neily
Subject: March Meeting of the NS Wild Flora Society

<div dir=3D"ltr">

If you ever enjoyed a walk out at Peggys Cove, Taylor Head, Duncan=92s Cove= or the Skyline trail in Cape Breton Highlands national park, this talk is = for you.

As well as being iconic landscapes, barrens contribute an important and = historically overlooked part of Nova Scotia=92s natural history.
