Hi all,
Again this year, Mission Monarch is collecting information on milkweed, Monarchs, and their caterpillars. (mission-monarch.org)

Last year there was a weekend survey blitz to get information on the populations of Monarchs in North America. This year the 'blitz' has been extended to a week from July 29 through August 6th.

If you know of or have a patch of milkweed where Monarch might be breeding, you can help by surveying the milkweed for adults, caterpillars and eggs. Report the patch location and size along with your survey at Mission-Monarch. All you have to do is to create or have an account at mission-monarch.org.

The Mission Monarch site uses the same mapping as e-butterfly.org and you can search and examine the data already there. There is also information on how to do the survey along with Monarch butterfly biology.

If you live in the Annapolis Valley, locations (Wolfville to Bear River) of milkweed patches have been located and mapped in previous years and you may want to use that information and add to it if you find new patches of milkweed. A Google location Map is available at http://valleynature.ca - The maps are on the page
http://nw.nature1st.net/index.php?id=milkweed-common-locations

If you have new locations you can send them to me and I will add them to the map.

Regards,
Larry
