Would that be considered a roll cloud? From: Rick Whitman<mailto:dendroica.caerulescens@gmail.com> Sent: October 23, 2016 8:14 AM To: naturens<mailto:naturens@chebucto.ns.ca> Subject: [NatureNS] Last Evening's Weather I thought the weather last evening was quite dramatic. As the second period= of heavy rain began to move out, about 5:45 PM, it was obvious that condit= ions were perfect for a rainbow. It was still raining hard but the low sun = was shining almost clear from the SW. Sure enough, we had great views of a = complete bow (and some double) that reached the ground on both ends. I have= two photos. This seems to have been sort of a false end to the system. The sky had comp= letely cleared but then, at 6:35 PM, as I drove down the Gaspereau Valley W= of Gaspereau, I noticed another couple stopped, photographing the sky. Kud= os to them ! I looked back over my right shoulder and noticed this massive = horizon-to-horizon cloud front moving down the Valley W to E. I pulled off = and got 3 shots on an iPhone. They only begin to capture how dramatic this = was. I suspect it was dozens of km long, N to S, and was moving very quickl= y. It swept down the Valley from the photo location, to directly over us, i= n something like a minute. The wind picked up very quickly. If this had bee= n anywhere W of Quebec, I might have been headed for a ditch or a cellar. I= have two photos following the rainbow photos. https://rickwhitman.smugmug.com/Nature/Glory-Photos/i-pLVrsLQ/A Regards, Rick Whitman --_000_CO1PR05MB538430B043B878BA790C3A8B0D60CO1PR05MB538namprd_ Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html> <head> <meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3Dus-ascii"= > </head> <body> <meta name=3D"Generator" content=3D"Microsoft Word 15 (filtered medium)"> <style><!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {mso-style-priority:99; color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {mso-style-priority:99; color:#954F72; text-decoration:underline;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only;} @page WordSection1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --></style> <div class=3D"WordSection1"> <p class=3D"MsoNormal">Nice captures.
