For me this spring it = is the White-throated Sparrow. I didn't hear/see any on the Migratory Count= so the other day I made a special effort on the South Mountain & heard one= !. Yet hundreds have been reported in transit in NB along the Fundy coast. Like other reports we have two pairs of Chippies nesting in our area. Cheers=2C Angus From: dendroica.caerulescens@gmail.com Date: Fri=2C 27 May 2016 17:19:37 -0300 Subject: [NatureNS] Chipping Sparrow as a Rare Species ? To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca I always thought of Chipping Sparrow as a common species. Perhaps I just wa= sn't paying attention=2C and always saw some without effort. Not this year.= I haven't seen one yet. I see in the just-released BBA that they are "rare= " in Western NS but I believe there is lots of good habitat in Kings Co. A total of seven birds have been reported in Kings Co. on eBird since May 1= 5th: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/map/chispa?bmo=3D01&emo=3D12&byr=3D2016&eyr= =3D2016&yr=3D&env.minX=3D-66.396&env.minY=3D43.389&env.maxX=3D-59.643&env.m= axY=3D47.227&gp=3Dtrue Many "good" species are far more common than this.
