The whir of forest = machinery cutting down the woods last night as we looked for Barred Owls = (and found at least 3 individuals residing near Spectacle Lake) was = extraordinary. How will Gray Jays nest and survive in the bits of = habitat remaining? =20 =20 How much of the decline of boreal birds is from climate change and how = is much from forest removal and/or fragmentation that favors Blue Jays, = Crows, etc? =20 =20 Lots of Ruffed Grouse this year. I keep looking for Spruce Grouse, but = none observed so far. =20 Donna =20 From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca = [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Chris Pepper Sent: May-01-16 5:10 PM To: John and Nhung Subject: Re: [NatureNS] THREE turkey vultures, two days, Antigonish Co. =20 =E2=80=8EHi John, I have been keeping track of Gray Jay, Spruce Grouse and Boreal = Chickadee sightings for a few years now. I spend a lot of time = throughout most of the province and I find these species, along with a = few other boreal birds hard to find SW of Lunenburg. I'm not sure where = you're from in SW N.S. but I'm curious to know if there's always been a = lack of these boreal=E2=80=8E species there or have you noticed a = decline over the years? =20 =20 Thanks, =20 Chris =20 Sent from my BlackBerry 10 smartphone on the Bell network.
