I=E2=80=99m from Yarmouth.

Spruce grouse were always noteworthy, and I am not sure how many years it=
=E2=80=99s been since I last saw one. Suffice it to say that, given years =
away from home. I can=E2=80=99t comment much on that species.

The jays were pretty common and regular in the winter in my younger years,=
but in the ten-plus years that I=E2=80=99ve been back they have been very =
uncommon. Ditto for evening grosbeaks.

Boreal chickadees seemed less common but were not unusual. Ten years ago, =
a few persisted along the Chebogue Meadows trail, but I=E2=80=99m not sure =
if that is still the case.

Does that help?

=E2=80=8EHi John,

I have been keeping track of Gray Jay, Spruce Grouse and Boreal Chickadee s=
ightings for a few years now. I spend a lot of time throughout most of the =
province and I find these species, along with a few other boreal birds hard=
to find SW of Lunenburg. I'm not sure where you're from in SW N.S. but I'm=
curious to know if there's always been a lack of these boreal=E2=80=8E spe=
cies there or have you noticed a decline over the years?

Thanks,

Chris

And down here in the Banana Belt, they are not noteworthy. Ditto for cardi=
nals.

Evening grosbeaks, Canada jays, and boreal chickadees, on the other hand, g=
enerate excitement.

This province isn=E2=80=99t as small as it seems!

In 24 hours, I doubled my Turkey Vulture count for Antigonish Co., with two=
soaring over Ohio yesterday around 5:30, and one gliding over my land (new=
 yard bird!) this afternoon.
