Wouldn't have been B. ternarius, because there was no orange. Hope it found safe shelter before the weather crapped out! From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Angus MacLean Sent: April 28, 2016 10:49 AM To: naturens Subject: RE: [NatureNS] Bumble Bee That would be a Queen, Paul. Interesting sighting as usually Bombus ternarius (Tri-colored) is not the first Queen out. That's usually Bombus impatiens (Common Eastern Bumble Bee) which is the most common bee in the spring/early summer. Have yet to see any so far. Angus _____ Date: Wed, 27 Apr 2016 17:28:44 -0300 From: rita.paul@ns.sympatico.ca To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Subject: [NatureNS] Bumble Bee Hi All The first Bumble Bee that I've seen this spring visited the garden today. A beautiful tricolored bee - big - it checked out the hyacinths and a few dandelions that are out. I had hoped it would come to my hand for some honey but I wasn't that lucky. Some years there are rhodies out by this time but some deer made a lunch of my early rhodie earlier. A lovely day - enjoy the spring Paul --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus ------=_NextPart_000_0068_01D1A143.90060750 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-micr= osoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns:m=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml" xmlns=3D"http:= //www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"><head><META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"Content-Type" CONTENT= =3D"text/html; charset=3Dus-ascii"><meta name=3DGenerator content=3D"Micros= oft Word 14 (filtered medium)"><!--[if !mso]><style>v\:* {behavior:url(#def= ault#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} =2Eshape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} </style><![endif]--><style><!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:Tahoma; panose-1:2 11 6 4 3 5 4 4 2 4;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {mso-style-priority:99; color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {mso-style-priority:99; color:purple; text-decoration:underline;} p {mso-style-priority:99; mso-margin-top-alt:auto; margin-right:0cm; mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; margin-left:0cm; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";} span.EmailStyle18 {mso-style-type:personal-reply; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; color:#1F497D;} =2EMsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; font-size:10.0pt;} @page WordSection1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --></style><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapedefaults v:ext=3D"edit" spidmax=3D"1026" /> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapelayout v:ext=3D"edit"> <o:idmap v:ext=3D"edit" data=3D"1" /> </o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--></head><body lang=3DEN-CA link=3Dblue vli= nk=3Dpurple><div class=3DWordSection1><p class=3DMsoNormal><span style=3D'f= ont-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>Had a lar= ge all-yellow one fly out of the car one warm afternoon shortly before the = recent snow.
