<http://pinicola.ca/wasted_lives.pdf> - I discuss other aspects of road =
ecology at http://pinicola.ca/rd_ecol_10_quest.pdf =
<http://pinicola.ca/rd_ecol_10_quest.pdf>

* I=E2=80=99m thinking it would be useful to put together some kind of =
point form instruction page for those who are interested in initiating a =
road ecology project in their area. Maybe you have done so already. It =
might include tips on what hours are best for checking the road if you =
wish to get the most comprehensive picture of what is going on. =
Obviously, late evening would be a good time - before raccoons, skunks, =
etc=E2=80=A6 get out there to scavenge the dead and injured vehicle =
casualties. Also, weather conditions that result in large migrations. =
I know that such things get discussed fairly regularly on the Eastern =
Ontario nature list, but that is because there are quite a few in your =
area interested in road ecology and reporting on peak movements. Thus =
far, I have not seen as many similar postings on the NS nature list, but =
assume that there might be an increase in reporting if there is an =
interesting among members of the list. =20

Note to other NatureNS members: This is a project I=E2=80=99m going to =
try to take on for this season at my place at Round Hill. I=E2=80=99m =
already outdoors checking my moth sheets late into the evening, so will =
try to include checking the road as well. I may be in a good location =
for doing so as I=E2=80=99m next to a brook and a lot of woodlands =E2=80=94=
and my road gets a reasonable amount of traffic throughout the evening. =
Should be interesting to see what may be observed. =20
