The typical subspecies of Red-tailed Hawk encountered in Nova Scotia is the=
 Eastern Red-tailed Hawk (B. j. borealis). Kathleen MacAulay=2C Jon Ruddy a=
nd I will be studying Red-tailed Hawk photos from Nova Scotia to see when a=
nd where we are getting birds from populations other than the Eastern Red-t=
ailed Hawk.
I will be accepting any Red-tailed Hawk photos (recent or old=2C but the fo=
cus will be on photos within the last year) captured in Nova Scotia through=
 my e-mail address alixdentremont@hotmail.com. To keep things organized=2C =
could you please enter "Red-tailed Hawk Photo Study" as the subject for the=
e-mail. It is also important to provide the date and location for all phot=
os. Please also send photos from the upcoming winter 2015/2016 season. I wi=
ll send out another e-mail once we are satisfied that we have enough submis=
sions.
We will sort through the photos and assign them to a subspecies based on ap=
pearance. It will also be extremely useful to provide us with multiple angl=
es of the same bird if possible. Upperside (perched bird facing away=2C bir=
d in a banking flight) and underside (perched bird facing the camera or the=
underside of a flying bird) photos would be great. If you've already poste=
d your photos to the Nova Scotia Bird Society Facebook Page=2C then there i=
s no need to send those to me=2C I have already stored them. Here are some O=
nline references for those looking for more information on this subject and=
specifically on the Northern Red-tailed Hawk (B. j. abieticola): https://n=
