I wonder if there=E2=80=99s a lesson here about backing stuff up =E2=80=9Co=
ff-cloud.=E2=80=9D

Seems sometimes as if the more sophisticated we get, the more vulnerable to=
 surprises we become.

I changed from Pbase to Smugmug about 2 years ago because Pbase kept going =
down and was unreliable . However, I kept up muy Pbase payments so that I c=
ould still access my old online pics. I'm not surprised they have disappear=
ed, but it's a pity, and annoying that they haven't given any notice.

That's a real shame...I used Tom Murray's (author of "Insects of New Englan=
d and New York") site a lot. I had noticed a change on Saturday...my link t=
o Tom's site stopped working but a Google search gave me the same URL with =
"/root" appended to the end. That worked on Saturday but is NOT working now=
=2E

A Whois search turns up Network Solutions (an ISP) as the owner so, yes, it=
looks like whoever actually owned the domain has allowed it to lapse.
