Thank you Keith and all for the reasurance on the bobolinks. My visit ther=
e this time was rather casual. The time of day that I was present also cou=
ld have been a factor as the males were likely quiet. On the 20th some hay=
harvesting had started but in the far quadrant in an area where I usually =
do not see or hear bobolinks. Were the shovelers that you saw in the river =
or in the ponds? I just visited the ponds=2C but irregardless it is nice t=
o hear that goodly numbers of that bird were still present on the 14th. =20

Sincerely=2C

I guess I am wrong then about Bobolinks. That=92s good! I am just not see=
ing or hearing them across from the Belle Isle Marsh like I once was. Howe=
ver=2C my observations are casual=2C while out exercising the dog on the tr=
acks. It was good habitat for them where I used to see them=2C and the fie=
lds are not mowed anymore in many places. Strangely=2C I don=92t manage to=
visit Belle Isle very often=2C what with spring-summer being the most hect=
ic at work. Glad to read there are still some!Donna From: naturens-owner@c=

Subject: RE: [NatureNS] Belle Isle and Bobolinks I was there twice this yea=
r and saw 20 =96 22 Bobolinks (almost all males) each time. Last year I sa=
w most of them in the center field but this year I=92m seeing them mainly i=
n the eastern side. Last year I was disheartened to see center field was cu=
t before the Bobolink fledged so that is probably why there are not many in=
the center filed this year. I=92ve been seeing small numbers of both teal =
and Rick Whitman and I had 15 Northern Shoveler there on Jun 14. From: natu=

Subject: RE: [NatureNS] Belle Isle and Bobolinks Hi Paul and all: Normally =
when I visit there I see lots of bobolinks. I don't know if it was the tim=
e of day or what=2C but I never heard or saw any bobolinks at all on my vis=
it on the past Sunday. I would be most interested in knowing if any others=
who have visited there saw normal numbers for bobolinks this year. Water =
levels within the marsh were very high. Therefore=2C higher amounts of wat=
er I would assume could definitely affect nesting and maybe the resident bo=
bolinks had left due to nesting failure. All comments are most welcome. I=
hope that I'm wrong. Noticeably missing from the French Basin Trail and Be=
lleisle were green-winged and blue-winged teal and northern shovelers. Com=
ments on this would be welcome also. Sincerely=2C James Date: Tue=2C 30 =

Subject: [NatureNS] Belle Isle and BobolinksHi All A few years ago there wa=
s a major scheme afoot to make Belle Isle more suitable for Bobolinks. Unfo=
rtunately as much as I would like it is difficult for me to visit there. an=
d I never see any more press reports about it. Does anyone know how the sch=
eme worked out? Folks who visit there could report on the numbers they see =
or an offical report would be great. Enjoy Canada Day! Paul =
