I went birding in the Amherst area on Saturday, June the 20th. I started at the Amherst Point Bird Sanctuary. Recently James Hirtle posted that he hadn’t seen or heard many White-throated Sparrow this year. I hadn’t as well until I went to the Sanctuary. There were 10 White-throated Sparrows. A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker tapped it’s irregular tap was also seen and heard. It sounded like the bird was running out of steam by the end of it’s tapping. Another highlight was a Marsh Wren at Eddy Marsh. Two target species were not seen or heard. American Bittern or Virginia Rail. It’s a beautiful area and I look forward to returning. Links are posted below of the Ebird Reports for Amherst Point, Eddy Marsh and Amherst Marsh.
