--f46d0418280878639005164ec8ce Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Quick note. This morning (May 17) Andy Dean and I walked the Bigelow Nature Trail this morning. For those of you interested, it's a nice little loop that runs between NKEC, and Glooscap Elementary/Rink. You can access it from the old CDHS parking lot. Rough map attached on eBird checklist. I had submitted the nature trail as an eBird hotspot a few weeks back, but haven't heard confirmation yet, despite the go-ahead on a few other areas. If the reviewer happens to to subscribe to this list, could you please re-consider? It's a pretty under-birded area, with some great habitat. I was saying to Andy, there could be some nice critters hanging around. 30 species total, the most impressive being a family of great-horned owls. New to me in Canning was a Northern Mockingbird. Owls are located just behind the rink, near the tennis courts. I was up twice, 2 adults 1 juvenile in the morning, 1 adult 2 juveniles in the evening. The little guys are very vocal, and while still fluffy, you can literally see them lose their downy feathers. They can fly already, so I wouldn't expect them to be around for too much longer.
