Great shots Peggy.=20
I meet Peggy on her return from waterside pp at about 12 this morning as th=
is was one of my destinations for the day's birding but lots of returning=
migrants made my progress there a tad slow and thus I missed the ibis. Pe=
ggy indicated that a couple people had walked by the ibis and flushed them =
and the ibis headed toward Caribou I. I called Steve and Amber Vines and w=
e searched the island for a couple hours but saw no signs of the ibis. I ch=
ecked out small marshes on Little Guy Lane and Kenneth Rd as well as marsh=
es near the lighthouse. A further check at Waterside on return did not reve=
al the ibis there either. The park was moderately busy so maybe once things=
quiet down they might return or maybe they kept heading to Pictou Island o=
r PEI. Past ibis observations in Pictou Co. have been at Big Island and Lyo=
ns Brook.=20
In my morning birding today, an adult Caspian Tern flew along the Pictou Ca=
useway as I was studying a tern that seemed to have a black bill that I lef=
t us identified like the 4 Alan Covert and I saw in the distance along the =
Middle River Dam yesterday. Most likely they are Common Terns back to breed=
in the county. There were 22 Bonaparte's Gulls there as well, most with b=
lack hoods.=20=20
I returned home via Abercrombie and from Company Rd looking at the edge of =
Ballast I in the East River ( traditional tern nesting area) at low tide I=
could see a Green-winged Teal with a horizontal stripe suggestive of Euras=
ian Teal with the regular American Teal, gadwall and wigeons.=20=20
