Had someone in the house this winter who kept the feeders filled and consequently had hordes of birds. All the usual winter residents but also at least one cardinal that stayed all winter, One was singing in the yard yesterday, also a Heron landed on the snow in the backyard yesterday. No unusual birding down South this winter but nice to see Sandhill Crane chicks out before we left. One pair had made their home in the middle of a major roundabout giving everyone a great view. They are all very tame in Florida. The Manatees are doing well this year with numbers up. For some unknown reason a favorite breeding spot is the marina behind our unit so we have a front row seat as several males at a time try for the female putting on amazing antics for such a large, normally slow moving beast. They were breeding through most of March.
