Florida is still a wonderful place for a nature lover despite the development (which incidentally, has come to a grinding halt). Some of the highlights were: 7 Manatees in our little Marina last week including three babies, A dolphin playing catch with a large mullet, throwing it 10 feet in the air and repeatedly catching it in the Indian River Lagoon, appeared to be training a baby swimming alongside. A giant turtle came up on our beach two weeks ago and laid its eggs in the dunes. Great variety of birds, mostly water birds of all varieties, and lots of Sandhill cranes. I have a picture of 17 in one field out on the Savannas. Now I have to get rid of the huge Spruce that came down and smashed all my feeders.
