Actually, it keeps some of us sharp. I have to use these for nocturnal =
owl surveys and forest songbird point counts. Because I am relatively =
new to forest songbird monitoring, it takes some practice each year to =
remember some of the less obvious/uncommon acronyms (much less =
remembering all the songs and calls). Like it or not, many of us have =
to use them if we want to participate. Define the bird code on first =
usage perhaps? =20

=20

Perhaps tossing those acronyms at us at times causes a little extra =
brain work -will stave off dementia!

I didn't realize using acronyms was offensive, and I'm sorry if I =
offended anyone. I'll be sure not to do it again.

What's to offend? I suspect that Fred was actually lampooning the use of =
virtually incomprehensible, or at least non-sensical, specialist jargon =
on a general nature list (ie. not all of us are birders). I thought =
"Nova Scotia Woman" for NSWO was a pretty good guess (though this =
context made it a curious comment on the part of the original poster).
