Yesterday 3 of us went down to Brier island for a day of birding. Even
though it was only. - 4C, there was a strong west wind, and in the exposed
spots such as Northern Point and Pond Cove beach it felt very raw,
although sunny. There were large numbers of inshore seabirds, e. g sea
ducks, Guillemots etc., with a pair of Harlequins and a F. Barrows
goldeneye being the stars. But real sea watching was very dead, not even a
passing Gannet or Alcid. The woods were very quiet too, and the only
slightly unusual birds were some Common Redpoll and Pine siskins at a
feeder in Westport. We couldn't find A Boreal chickadee despite much
searching and pishing. The only raptors were 4 T. Vultures and a single
Bald eagle. There were about 500+ Eiders off Tiverton, and almost none on
Brier.
