Index of Subjects HI Angela I have also heard unusual owl sounds during the last three years - all in the fall. The sound was similar to juvenile GHOs but also somwhat similar to Barn Owls (uncommon here). The individual(s) moved in an arc of arounf 500 m when approached. Was never able to get a clear view of an individual, but usually seemed to stay in the canopy around the edge of our pastures. Does anyone know if juveniles are still begging this time of the year, and if so, do they remain stationary or move around? This was between 8:30-9:15 tonight. We listened to it for about 15 minutes. It was relatively stationary, but we could imagine 'it' was turning it's head and calling in different directions. It did not appear to be coming from the ground but in the trees. I googled owl sounds when I got home and we can both say with certainty that we heard a juvenile great horned owl shrieking. I have heard great horned owls on occasion in two different areas of Windsor ( NS ). One was by Haliburton House in town and currently closer to The Super 8/ AvonView High school vicinity, Pretty cool way to end the day.
