Index of Subjects Pleasant Hill Sunday & Monday Update Sunday was a very busy day on “The Hill”. In the morning we were overwhelmed by numerous sparrows and their allies. Minimum Numbers = 130 plus Song Sparrows, 40 plus White-throated Sparrow, 35 plus Dark-eyed Juncos, 16 plus Savannah Sparrows. We also had small numbers of Chipping Sparrows and Swamp Sparrows, and numerous sparrows that slipped away unidentified. Non Seed Eaters included: 2 Eastern Phoebes (1 which was very friendly and provided a number of birders with pics). 15 Blue-headed Vireos including one which looked pale gray with white spectacles and no other discernible color, however it never stayed still long enough for a better id 4 Red-eyed Vireos 1 Female Wilson's Warbler. 4 Ruby-crowned Kinglets 2 Palm Warblers including 1 very photogenic bird. 24 Common Yellowthroat 30-40 Yellow-rumped Warblers. 4 or more Blackpoll Warblers 1 Black & White Warbler 1 Black-throated Green Warbler 1 Yellow Warbler Monday September 29. On Monday there were less Song Sparrows to sort thru but still 50 plus individuals present. White-throated Sparrows were down to 20 plus and Dark-eyed Juncos down to 8. Virtually all of the insect eaters were still present with lesser numbers of Blue-headed Vireos being seen. New species included a couple of Pine Siskins, a small flock of Canada Geese (flyovers), and a male, fall plumaged Indigo Bunting. I haven't been to the cemetery today but given the weather I suspect there has not been much of a change over. - Cheers, Clarence
