This morning about 0930 a skua flew W well south of Western Head, Queen's C=
o. It was too far away for a certain ID but it appeared to be uniformly dar=
k so was probably a South Polar. The only other birds of note were 118 Gann=
ets during a 45-min sea-watch, all adult except for 5 juveniles and 1 secon=
d-year. It appears that the breeding failure north of us this summer took i=
ts toll.

Near LW, there was an adult graellsii Lesser Black-backed Gull with a few H=
erring Gulls and an adult Great Black-backed Gull on Eagle Head Beach. This=
is one of the best sites on the South Shore for this species (for reasons =
unknown).
