At my cottage near Port Hilford, Guys Co for a long weekend.

The Barn Swallow community at the Wine Harbour Barachois is quite healthy
They appear to nest in the fishing shacks at the end of the pier.

A bear munched my best bird feeder, and I now have an explanation for the
disappearance of a few other feeders and the destruction of a suet feeder.
You could see the tooth holes through both sides of the 4" plastic tube.
The bear just snapped off the 6 ft metal pole like a matchstick.

I had Hummingbirds at the hummer feeders, out of reach of bears.

The usual Chickadees, Nuthatches and Purple Finches at my remaining
sunflower feeder.

Sitting at dusk looking over the cove I watched a Beaver swim past and
splash its tail, going down the lake, and a Loon surface like a submarine
for a few seconds only to dive and disappear. There is a pair of Loons on
the lake ( Indian Harbour Lake ), but no chicks currently. A Kingfisher can
also usually be seen flying past at dusk.

Something is dropping the leaves off my 50 ft Big Toothed Aspen. On some of
the leaves on the ground I found some aphid like insects. They appeared to
be eating the leaf stems and not the leaves themselves.

I also saw half a dozen Fireflies in the evenings.

This small 2.5 km long lake is where a Chinese developer has bought 3000
acres to build a resort :^(
