It was a Broad-winged Hawk that appeared= very dark. It seems the dark phase does not exist in the East though. Would= this be a heavily marked juvenile?=20 My view was mainly of the back and upper tail. No light areas on the back an= d the thin tail bands looked more gray than white. I also did not notice a w= hite band on the end of the upper tail. Note I was looking into the dappled= shade of the leaves at the time (7am) and the colours may have been shadowe= d.=20 The call is worth looking up and listening to.=20 Nancy East Dalhousie, Kings Co.=20 Sent from my iPhone= --Apple-Mail-BBE30C33-871C-42F8-B0BD-75ECE579752A Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html><head><meta http-equiv=3D"content-type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3D= utf-8"></head><body dir=3D"auto"><div><span style=3D"-webkit-text-size-adjus= t: auto;">A penetrating sound in the woods that Sibley's describes as a "</s= pan><span style=3D"-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(25= 5, 255, 255, 0);">piercing, thin, high whistle <i>teeteeeeee</i> o= n one pitch" (piercing is an apt description) took me outside to locate the c= aller.
