This was not a birding trip, but I did take binoculars and camera just in case, and in the course of casual observations saw 53 bird species and photographed most. In comparison with the birding in NS at the moment, the dawn chorus was loud and prolonged everywhere, Common Blackbirds sang loudly even in city centers, there were hundreds of Barn Swallows and Common Swifts everywhere, Common Terns were common inland along the canals and rivers, Lapwings, Oyster catchers and Black - tailed Godwits were common in fields and pastures, yes you can tell Grey from Great Blue Herons, and the commonest songs were from Chiffchaffs and Chaffinches. Black Tern and N. Goshawk were new to Europe for me, and I actually saw a Cuckoo amongst many that I heard. Now I need to find time to process hundreds of photos, mostly of medieval buildings!
