The last 2-3 days here it = has not been much above 6-7C all day long. I still think they are not = coming out of the chimney much at all, but speculation on my part. The = protocol for Swiftwatch is 30 min prior to sunset but maybe 45 min on = overcast days. Sunset now is 8:47. By arriving last night at 7: 45, I = think if swifts were about I would have heard them. I did not go all = that far from the chimney as I went to a view point over the East River = in New Glasgow where I though some swifts might be feeding but could = hear or see none. I often hear them over my house in the evening as = well. Hope they will survive till we have a change in the weather.=20 cheers Ken ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Elizabeth Doull=20 To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca=20 Cc: Holly Lightfoot=20 Sent: Monday, May 26, 2014 3:48 PM Subject: Re: [NatureNS] Temperance St school Chimney Swift = observations May 2014 Hi Ken Maybe come a bit earlier? I found 60+ chimney swifts enter the = chimney between 6:41 and 6:46 pm on May 10th. It is so cold = here, there are few insects, and I think what few swifts that are around = are either staying in the chimney or going in very early. Last night I = checked at 7:45 for 5 min. There were none seen or heard (6C) and I came = back about 8:15 and stayed to 9. No swifts heard or seen. With warmer = weather for Thurs. I expect that there should be more visible for the = dusk show.
