WESTERN TANAGER: Kempt Head Rd., Bouladerie Island, Victoria Co., Debbie Dinnan had a Western Tanager show up at her feeder last Sunday (24 November) and it has been back most days since. Between her photos and my observations this morning, I think it is a first year male. It is bright yellow, with a wash of dirty orange around the face. While I was there it fed on quite a few sunflower seeds and also a few small crab apples. Twice it spent some time chasing Blue Jays either away form the sunflower seed feeder or the crab apples. In the area were about 10 American Goldfinch, 6 Black-capped Chickadee, 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch and 2 Golden-crowned Kinglet.
