I picked out the Barnacle Goose in flight,= and by dint of much searching did see it on the ground among the masses of= Canadas (I estimated 1100-1200). But although I put in a good deal of time= searching through this flock, I did not see a Pink-footed Goose, and like = Ian had unsatisfactory views of what could have been Cackling Geese. It's anyone's guess on any day just where the geese will end up. They obey = a logic that I don't understand, although it is linked in some ways to what= the farmers are doing with their fields. This year, at least recently, the= y seem to be avoiding the North River area. And there may be more than one = big flock. Eric L. There was onl= y a handful of Canadas through noon in the Truro area - covered all the usu= al fields. Then, at ca. 2:30 large numbers totalling an estimated 1400 arri= ved and settled in a field field west of Board Landing Rd. the first road t= o north after the turnoff to the Onslow Rd. Among them were two small birds= , too far to be i.d.- picky, but I think they were standard pale-breasted "= Richardson's" CACKLING GOOSE. Rather few small interior (possibly Greenland= ) Canadas - will they come, or have they largely passed west of us this yea= r? Then took the slow road to Windsor,to find ca. 450 Canadas in the 4:30 gloa= ming, in first fields n. of the Martock Rd Nothing exotic among them. Still worth looking over, but little luck today.
