This Week's Sky at a Glance

Some night sky sights for November 15 =96 23

Comet ISON has brightened suddenly to about 6th magnitude as of November =
14th low in the east just before dawn

Meanwhile, Comet Lovejoy is much higher before dawn and has been =
stealing the show. Both comets are visible in binoculars despite =
moonlight returning to the morning sky. Observers with very dark skies =
are reporting seeing both naked-eye.=20

There is now a long, ragged, roughly horizontal snake in the east by =
late evening. From right to left: Rigel in Orion's foot in the =
east-southeast, Orion's Belt, Betelgeuse, and Jupiter.=20

On Sunday, November 17, the Moon will go into its Full Phase (sometimes =
referred to as the Full Beaver Moon). This means we will see the moon =
all night. Expect higher high tides and lower low tides.

On Saturday, November 16 the sun rose at 7:21 a.m. and will set at 4:47 =
p.m. giving 9 hours 26 minutes of daylight hours. On Saturday, November =
23, the sun will rise at 7:31 a.m. and set at 4:40 p.m. to give 9 hours =
10 minutes of daylight hours (These values are for Moncton, New =
Brunswick).=20

This Week's Planet Roundup=20

Mercury (magnitude =960.6) shines low in the east-southeast in early =
dawn. This is its best morning apparition of 2013. Don't confuse Mercury =
with Spica to its upper right. The gap between them widens from 12=B0 to =
18=B0 this week. To their upper left by about 30=B0 is Arcturus.=20

Venus (magnitude =964.8) is the brilliant "Evening Star" in the =
southwest during dusk, shining just about as high and bright as it's =
going to this year. It sets more than an hour after dark.=20

Mars (magnitude 1.4) rises around 2 a.m. It's moving eastward against =
the background stars, pulling farther away to the lower left from =
Regulus. By dawn, Mars and Regulus are high in the south-southeast. =20

Jupiter (magnitude =962.5) rises in the east-northeast around 9 p.m. It =
blazes highest around 4 a.m.=20

Saturn is deep in the glow of sunrise.=20
