Especially chipping or = debarking but perhaps even Christmas tree harvesting or studwood = cutting. Or recent swarms of ants upstream ? (very unlikely this late in = the year) Twenty plus years ago, when I was starting to carve 'practical' = (some quite impractical) objects I found a huge Spruce burl by the = roadside and spent the better part of an evening using a chainsaw, = without eye protection, to cut off slabs of rot infested or ant infested = and highly resinous exterior to reduce dimensions to a more readily = loaded ~5' diameter of mostly useful wood.=20 Some 6 hours later I woke with upper and lower lids of both eyes so = puffed up I could barely see. The nurse and Dr who examined me in = Emergency said it was just some kind of eye irritation (gave me eye = drops ?) and advised rest for a day or so. It may have been formic acid = from ants, resin powder or fungal spores/hyphae but I have always = suspected resin because parts of that burl were loaded. yt, Dave Webster, Kentville ----- Original Message -----=20 From: darrell@abolitphotos.ca=20 To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca=20 Sent: Tuesday, November 12, 2013 9:36 AM Subject: [NatureNS] Re: beaver with swollen red eyelids Apon catching a beaver my father and I noticed red swollen eyelids on = it. Dad said in his 40 years of trapping he has never seen such a thing = and neither have I. In searching the web I couldn't find any information on red eyes in = beaver, just pets. Possibly conjunctiva. Both eye lids were swollen and = red. The eyeballs looked fine. Maybe this is something new,=20 All the best, Darrell =20 No virus found in this message.
