Hi Marian,

I'm afraid lots of wild predators do play with their prey (yes, =
including dolphins in the wild). I don't know for sure, but would guess =
that it's also the natural behaviour of the wild cats that are the =
ancestors of the domestic cat. Some species (such as cheetahs, I think?) =
don't do it, but that's likely more to save energy and not get hurt than =
to avoid letting the prey escape -- a gazelle with a good bite to the =
neck isn't going far.

Cruel stuff, though easily curtailed by keep our valued companions =
indoors.
