We walked the trail this afternoon, from Indian Point road. Right at =
the trailhead, I was serenaded by a warbler. He perched very close to =
me, and I got a very good look. A Yellow Throat. My first.
The flora were spectacular. The iris was still blooming, along with =
lots of Labrador tea, three-toothed cinquefoil, pitcher plant, beach =
pea, bunchberry, stitchwort, wild lily-of-the-valley, etc=E2=80=94all =
the usuals. There was one plant with which I am not familiar. It was =
growing in the cracks in the granite and looked for all the world like a =
miniature hen-and-chickens. Could this have been roseroot (sedum =
rosea)? It had a bit of a scraggly yellow tuft at the top=E2=80=94like =
the remains of a previous flowering. =20
There were quite a few Savanna sparrows, one family with a young one =
just fledging. A great blue heron flew overhead. Lots of cormorants =
and noisy willets.
There was NO WIND!
