Perhaps this year I don't know if anyone else did. Enjoy the spring Paul --- On Mon, 4/29/13, Carl Munden <carl.munden@ns.sympatico.ca> wrote: From: Carl Munden <carl.munden@ns.sympatico.ca> Subject: [NatureNS] Lady's-Slippers To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Received: Monday, April 29, 2013, 7:17 AM I am assuming that this thread is about Pink Lady's-Slippers Cypripedium ac= aule. Numbers tossed around in the past have between 4 to 8 percent.= Also up until lately, it was almost impossible to transplant or sow from s= eed. The pollinators are the first of the years Bumblebees Bombus sp. and t= hey are too big to get through the exit hole in the back of the bulb like l= ip of the floral part. Of the other three species: Yellow Lady's- Slippers Cypripedium pubescens a= nd Showy Lady's-Slippers Cypripedium reginae are about equal when it comes = to setting seed capsules possibly 20 to 30 percent. The champion of the 4 species for setting seed capsules is the little Ram's= Head Lady's-Slipper Cypripedium arietinum. This plant comes close to 90 pe= rcent or more in developing it's seed capsules. Look in Gypsum country For Ram's Head on or about May 25=A0 and later. Also= in Gypsum, the Yellow on or about June 10. Look for Showys in wet, basic s= oil on or about July 1. The Pink Lady's Slipper is only found in acidic soi= l(most of NS) on or about June 10. Also for those who would try picking either Yellows or Showys, these two ha= ve a nasty little secret. You will notice that these two are kind of hairy = on the stems and some people will get an allergenic reaction from them. Not= as bad as Poison ivy but a force to be reckoned with. So, for ALL four species, Enjoy, Photograph and Admire BUT Please Do Not Pi= ck !! =A0 "PSYCODES" ---285128509-929404582-1367251903=:84870 Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <table cellspacing=3D"0" cellpadding=3D"0" border=3D"0" >
<td valign=3D"= top" style=3D"font: inherit;">
Hi Carl

A few years ago someone talked about tissue culture grown

Lady Slippers - reginea I believe

got some and they grow but no flowers yet!

Perhaps this year I don't know if anyone else did.

Enjoy the spring

Paul

--- On Mon, 4/29/13, Carl Munden <carl.m= unden@ns.sympatico.ca> wrote:

<BLOCKQUOTE style=3D"BORDER-LEFT: rgb(16,16,255) 2px solid; PADDING-LEFT: 5= px; MARGIN-LEFT: 5px">
From: Carl Munden <carl.munden@ns.sympatico.ca= >
Subject: [NatureNS] Lady's-Slippers
To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca<= BR>Received: Monday, April 29, 2013, 7:17 AM

I am assuming that this thread is about Pink Lady's-Sli= ppers Cypripedium acaule.
