I have witnessed them doing both. Sandy From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of AngelaJoudrey Sent: March-03-13 12:08 PM To: naturens Subject: [NatureNS] Q. from my Dad ( pheasant leg bones, trees, and maybe a weasal ) Hi there. My Dad sent me a question and was wondering if I could ask around. I've cut and pasted his e mail below. They live in Beaverbank. ...."This am I found a hole in the snow at the base of a large spruce tree-40-0 feet or more high - and in the hole was the remains of a pheasant leg , from the 3 toes to the joint and attached to the bone to it's breast area . Just bone, everything else cleaned off . Would this be the work of a rat or weasel? When I uncovered the snow, the hole turned and went back down and under the stump/root/ base of the tree. No tracks or feathers. Could this have been hauled there ? Haven't found a kill site. Do weasels kill pheasant? My working career was at Lands and Forests where the weasel was the only animal that was probable me !!!!!"....
