You may find a small amount of comfort knowing that that isn't always the c= ase. In a 2012 environmental assessment report of the impact of the realign= ment of the Trans-Canada Highway in PEI the following can be found: "Road salts that contain inorganic chloride salts are considered "toxic" as= defined in Section 64 of the CEPA... Environment Canada determined that th= e development and refinement of Salt Management Plans is the best mitigatio= n against potential environmental effects from road salt use." Also, Environment Canada has issued a number of bulletins regarding road sa= lt as well. This from an August 2000 bulletin: "Behavioural and toxicological impacts have been associated with exposure o= f mammalian and avian wildlife to road salts. Road salt increases the vulne= rability of birds to car strike and may poison some birds directly. To reli= eve thirst, birds may ingest snow which could have negative energetic conse= quences; consumption of meltwater containing high concentrations of salt ma= y increase salt ingestion rather than alleviating salt toxicosis. Road salt= may also affect wildlife through its impact on habitat, with reduction in = plant cover or community shifts that could affect wildlife dependent on the= se plants for food or shelter." Of course whether decision makers heed these warnings is another question e= ntirely. All the best, Lance Lance Laviolette Glen Robertson, Ontario --_000_92470D8023567B4D8D50FBA6E5E9D00F0D71CF5904HCXMSP1calmco_ Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-micr= osoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns:m=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml" xmlns=3D"http:= //www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40">
<meta http-equiv=3DContent-Type content= =3D"text/html; charset=3Dus-ascii"><meta name=3DGenerator content=3D"Micros= oft Word 12 (filtered medium)">

<span style=3D'f= ont-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'>Hi Paul,=

<span style=3D'font-size:14.0pt;font-= family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'>

<span style=3D'font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'= >>You wouldn't find that from University or government folks.=

<span style=3D'font-size:14.0pt;font-family= :"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'>

<span style=3D'font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";c= olor:black'>You may find a small amount of comfort knowing that that isn= 217;t always the case.
