One of the first birds I saw was a Glaucous Gull standing on the ice = close to the parking area; it departed shortly thereafter. Close by were = what looked like 2 pairs of Buffleheads and one pair of Hooded = Mergansers in some open water. As we waited for the rest of the group = to arrive, a Northern Harrier flew over - the 50-60 Black Ducks sitting = on the ice a long way out didn't budge. There were few ducks or anything else on the ocean side - 2 Common = Eiders and 2 Black Scoters were the sum total. The woodlands and the = dunes were very quiet. On our return along the beach, 2 Sanderling kept = flying in front of us. These were the only shorebirds noted. As we = chatted in the parking area after the hike, a Bald Eagle flew over our = heads, and as it approached the ducks, all of them scattered. They can = recognize danger a long way away!! My eBird total list was 11 species - pretty pathetic, but the quality = was respectable! Cheers, Bob McDonald Halifax ------=_NextPart_000_03AA_01CDFF2A.03A4E560 Content-Type: text/html; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable =EF=BB=BF<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Dutf-8" http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META name=3DGENERATOR content=3D"MSHTML 8.00.6001.19394"> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY dir=3Dltr bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT size=3D2 face=3DArial>I did some birding at Conrad's Beach = during a=20 weekly hike with my regular group of Tuesday morning = hikers.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2 face=3DArial></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2 face=3DArial>One of the first birds I saw was a = Glaucous Gull=20 standing on the ice close to the parking area; it departed shortly = thereafter.=20 Close by were what looked like 2 pairs of Buffleheads and one pair of = Hooded=20 Mergansers in some open water.
