There was a juv.-plumaged Cooper's Hawk in the backyard at lunchtime today.
It stayed about 30 minutes after I first noticed it - long enough to be
seen by Rick Whitman and Bernard Forsythe, who came over quickly when I
called. It kept looking around as if it were hunting, and eventually flew
off in a northerly direction (towards Sheffield Mills, actually - any
Eagle-watchers see it?).

I have put photos here -

and included the field marks that distinguish it from a Sharpie.

Amazingly, this is the 3rd juv. Cooper's I have seen in our yard in the 7
years we have lived here.

As soon as it left, our pair of Cardinals, Mourning Doves, Blue Jays etc.,
re-appeared at the feeders.

I also went to Miner's Marsh this morning, where there were about 25
Evening Grosbeaks, as well as Pine Siskins and a single Common Redpoll and
M.Cardinal.

Richard
