Nancy,

The Canadian Wildlife Service did some acoustic monitoring in Ontario =
and perhaps further east as well. I have no other details.=20

The web site you mentioned is a very good resource for birders who might =
want to get started in this kind of monitoring.

Are there any other nocturnal migration monitoring locations set up in =

Subject: [NatureNS] Nocturnal Migration This Week

This will be my last report for this season as night migration is small =
and soon weather conditions will place added stress on microphones.

This week there were a total 79 night flight calls, mostly sparrows =
including American Tree Sparrows. A possible rare vagrant was recorded =
this week: one or more Smith=E2=80=99s Longspurs. On October 31, 2012 at =
12:59 AM longspur rattles were recorded for a period of 13 seconds. The =
spectrograms of the rattles fit exceptionally well with Smith=E2=80=99s =
Longspur. The distinguishing characteristics of its rattle are =
it=E2=80=99s high frequency compared to Lapland Longspur (more than 1 =
kHz difference), it=E2=80=99s shorter duration (~13 vs 18 ms), and the =
shape of the individual rattle notes, emphasizing a rising note in =
Smith=E2=80=99s and a descending note in Lapland. In addition, listening =
to the rattles and comparing them with known recordings of =
Smith=E2=80=99s and Lapland again strongly suggest Smith=E2=80=99s. (The =
rattle of the Snow Bunting has a still lower frequency).

The summary of night flight calls for the week beginning the evening of =
26 October and ending the morning of 2 November is as follows:

=20

Canada Goose =E2=80=93 1

Killdeer =E2=80=93 1

Boreal Chickadee =E2=80=93 1

Golden-crowned Kinglet =E2=80=93 1
