This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0078_01CDA19E.19627500 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Laura dropped me off this morning at the gate to Chebucto Head light. = The place was active but I spotted no unusual birds. As it turns out the = goodies were just up the hill, as reported later by David Currie. I = walked over to Duncan's Cove and in company with David Currie et al I = who were already there I saw a Blue-headed Vireo and a Red-eyed Vireo. = There were lots of Boreal Chickadees in the area. Duncan's Reef offered = a fine morning's respite as I sipped my coffee and watched the marine = bird traffic go by. I walked back to the firehall on Ketch Harbour Road = near the intersection with Duncan's Cove Road where Laura picked me up. = She casually reported a Brown Thrasher crossing the road near the = western end of Portuguese Cove. Dave Currie dropped by our place later = in the morning and reported his cache of goodies. So,....it seems this = wasn't my morning for rarities. After a fall-off in numbers late last month the Painted Lady Butterfly = has returned in a fresh wave. I had lots of them plus five Monarch = Butterflies in our front yard's Echinacea and cultivated Blue Aster. = Both species of butterfly can be found everywhere in this area. While standing on our back deck this evening we could hear the Northern = Cardinal calling from the forest behind our house. If the cardinal = chooses to over-winter here it will be well looked after. After our evening walk along Chebucto Head Road we cruised along Sandy = Cove Road. This netted us a Ruffed Grouse and two, as usual, Gray Jays. I'll exercise my camera tomorrow and look for all the local rarities as = reported this morning.
