--Apple-Mail-11-239470910 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed SEPT. 17, 2012 - Daytime high tide 2:24 p.m. -- very big tide at 14.9 metres of amplitude, related to New Moon on Sept. 15 and Perigee on Sept. 19. When Perigee (vs. Apogee) coincides roughly with New Moon or Full Moon, predicted tidal amplitudes are big (high highs and low lows). I arrived at The Guzzle (East Point, ne. Grand Pre) at 12:30 p.m., and I found Rick Whitman there, and we viewed small shorebirds at the north end of the main dyke. I think Rick got counts of the various species -- I saw a total of perhaps 100 peeps, including 12+ semipalmated plovers, 3+ dunlins, mostly semipalmated sandpipers with some least sandpipers mixed in. It was brightly Sunny and windy and I found it difficult to follow the flying groups of peeps. I didn't see any definite white-rumped sandpipers. Next I drove around the dykelands, not finding anything reportable except a single flying northern harrier. Also seaside goldenrod is splendidly at its best right now along the top edges of salt-marshes. Then I drove to Wolfville and checked Wolfville Harbour at about 1:45 p.m. I could see that the tide was a big one, but I didn't realize it was still coming in. On the east side of the harbour I was checking some yellowlegs and got myself trapped at the base of the old Planters dyke and cut off by water from the real shore. So I trotted through that water and ended up with very wet shoes and socks -- live and learn, Jim!! Shorebirds in the salt-marsh and along the RR tracks at high tide were 20+ greater yellowlegs, about 10 peeps, at least half of which were least sandpipers, and a single lone spotted sandpiper. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville. --Apple-Mail-11-239470910 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/html; charset=US-ASCII
<body style=3D"word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; = -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "><div style=3D"margin-top: 0px; = margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; "><font = face=3D"Helvetica" size=3D"3" style=3D"font: 12.0px Helvetica">SEPT. = 17, 2012 - Daytime high tide 2:24 p.m. -- very big tide at = 14.9 metres of amplitude, related to New Moon on Sept. 15 and = Perigee on Sept. 19.
