Hi all,

Cornell has a great website with nest box dimensions and other tips for =
all sorts of species, here: =
http://www.birds.cornell.edu/nestinginfo/nestboxref/construct

At our tree swallow study sites around Gaspereau outside Wolfville, our =
nest box holes are round and one and a half inches in diameter, which is =
too small for starlings, but just fine for the swallows. It's so fine =
for house sparrows, unfortunately, but there haven't been any around our =
sites for several years now.

Cheers,
Andy Horn
Halifax

horizontal oval hole often used for Swallow boxes.

Swallows watched and even flew about my head and as soon as I moved they =
went back to the house. Might work for you. Someone here mentioned =
trying this to me and it has worked well.
