On one I = made an attempt to duplicate the oval swallow hole I had used on the = original box. I no longer have that pattern so for the other 2 boxes I = used a vertical oval as is recommended for the Peterson Bluebird box.=20 Yesterday 2 Swallows showed up and began an attempt to nest in one of = the boxes with the Bluebird hole. (Our first Swallows in more than a = dozen years) Unfortunately this hole does not eliminate Starlings and this morning = there was a bit of a squabble. The Swallows have resumed nest building = and the Starlings have left for now but I=E2=80=99m sure they will be = back. It would be a simple matter to switch the front of the box = replacing it with one having a smaller hole but I=E2=80=99m afraid that = would chase the Swallows away. For now I am keeping a close eye on = things but I=E2=80=99m wondering if anyone has suggestions and/or the = dimensions of the horizontal oval hole often used for Swallow boxes.
