Very nice for April.=0AThe stoneflie= s were very abundant. Lots on the river plus lots in the trees. The yellow = rumped=0Awarblers especially enjoyed the feast. Amazing how little fear the= y have of humans - coming=0Aless than a meter away, sitting on a branch and= singing a song. They caught the stoneflies on the wing.=0ARobins on the ot= her hand used a different tactic. They stood on rocks in the river - some w= ith water=0Alapping over the rock. They don't seem to mind wet feet. They p= icked the flies of as they drifted by.=0ASwallows went for those higher up = in the sky.I couldn't be sure just what flies they were feeding on=0Abut th= ey were flying just over the area where the lake goes into the river. Looke= d like tree swallows,=0Abut there may have been others. Sometimes there was= 50 in sight at once and many more behind=0Athe trees that I couldn't see. = Standing in fast water nearly to your waist is a poor time to count birds -= LOL=0AOther birds was a Black Backed Gull and an immature eagle. They were= searching for the offal=0Athat some trout fisherman left when they cleaned= their trout. Both would come quite close.=0AA Flicker was in the woods pou= nding away on dead trees. An impressive sound. Little wonder folks used to= =A0=0Acall them Yellow Hammers.=0AButterflies were around also. Mourning Cl= oak, Compton Tortoiseshell, =A0and=A0"The Infant" moth was the most=0Aimpre= ssive group of butterflies for this year. There were many white moths in th= e woods.
