I can see where locations are of interest and important to databases. =
If I=E2=80=99m talking birds, I would still have no hesitation, and am =
glad ot have my omissions pointed out to me. But if it=E2=80=99s game =
fish or (as Heather indicated) rare plants, I may be inclined to keep =
mum, at least publicly, for the reasons indicated. =20

There is always the odd individual who wants to have endangered nature =
for him or herself, and that is not OK.=20

I can only answer for myself.
First of all, rules like this tend to be used by bullies on the group
to make posters conform. If its not that rule, they will have another
so we may as well confront them on this one. One fellow has rules re the =
subject
of the post - he changes mine when he makes some remarks. Bully tactics.
Bullies never grow out of their habit.
In addition I go fishing a lot and report what I see other than the =
fish, I have no desire
to have a fish hog follow me there through this group.
I also once made a post where I gave the location, An other reader went
there and made a post as to how mean of me to send him there it was such =
a miserable spot.
A lady recently posted about her desire to have location in the posts. I =
have
never read to my knowledge any posts from her. She wants to make the =
rules
but doesn't post herself. A cyber bully!
In addition Jane the number of posts has fallen like the Maple Leaves in =
the NHL.
We need to do something to encourage folks to post. Bullies giving first =
time posters
the works about the rules will scare them away for sure.
Need any more reasons?

where you are? What is the harm in putting at least the general =
location in the subject heading=E2=80=94maybe just the county, even? I =
don=E2=80=99t understand why some are so opposed to this; and I think it =
would be helpful to those of us who would like to have an idea of =
location, to understand this apparently strong bias.

One point that should be made clear is the constant calling for all =
details in the post
has had the expected result of discouraging a lot of folks from making =
posts.
There is a couple of frequent complainers on this score.
I have had emails and have talked with people who indicated they no =
longer post because
of one individual in particular.
The moderator - if there is such a beast - should indicate to this =
individual that his
behaviour is unexceptable and stop chasing naturalists away. He will =
soon bring the=20
group to a stop! I for sure will be gone.
There is no rules for posts to my knowledge so be happy with what you =
get.

Good Points, Gail! Having the location, date, and observer's name clear =
in the e-mail is not only helpful to general readers or others in that =
area, but to editors for Nova Scotia Birds or North American Birds who =
may find the records useful.
Some also report to e-Bird, and I would urge each of these to be careful =
in naming your locations so that the nearest town or other community can =
be identified, especially for yard lists. Too often, they are simply =
called "Joe's Yard", "Betty's feeders", "123 Main St." (with no town =
name), or even "My cottage", etc., making them quite useless to anyone =
but the observer and his or her friends, or to someone with the time to =
track down a map link for it and bring it up on the net. (Painfully =
slow for those of us with dial-up modems).

Could everyone make an effort to identify what location they are =
referring to, including the county in some instances as there is more =
than one location with the place name. Some writers at excellent, with =
great directions. I find NatureNS very helpful to decide where we should =
head out to look for birds.=20

e-mail is not only helpful to general readers or others in that area, =
but to editors for <i>Nova Scotia Birds</i> or <i>North American =
Birds</i> who may find the records useful.<br><br>Some also report to =
e-Bird, and I would urge each of these to be careful in naming your =
locations so that the nearest town or other community can be identified, =
especially for yard lists. Too often, they are simply called =
"Joe's Yard", "Betty's feeders", "123 Main =
St." (with no town name), or even "My cottage", etc., =
making them quite useless to anyone but the observer and his or her =
friends, or to someone with the time to track down a map link for it and =
bring it up on the net. (Painfully slow for those of us with =
