Winter aconite, snowdrops and crocuses here have not been abnormally early. Agree with your comments, Heather, re. publicizing locations of rare plants. Our collecting tendencies are unfortunate! Grackles in today. Robins and song sparrows singing this week. Juncos and cardinals (yup!) have been at it for a while. We hit 17 degrees here yesterday, officially. Wonder what the temperatures were like further inland. Did anyone hear from Kedgie? From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Heather Drope Sent: March-20-12 12:47 PM To: Ken MacAulay; naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Subject: Re: [NatureNS] in bloom My Daphne is at the far corner of the garden tucked in to the grape vines on either side and then a chain link fence. There is a driveway and gravel parking lot on two sides. It is a very sunny spot and I do have an asphalt parking lot ten feet from it so maybe that makes the difference. I think this is much too early and worry about frost when those leaves start emerging. I feel all the sunshine has a contributing factor as the buds looked about to pop three weeks ago. Anyone who denies global weather change had better think again as we are seeing it. Heather ps Ken, maybe your daphne is in a windy spot but one would think that yours should be blooming sooner then mine. After all you are almost living in the banana belt of the province. _____ That is really early, Heather. I was looking at mine today and they aren't even showing any colour yet here on the South Shore. Is yours near your basement wall by chance?
