Hi All=0AYesterday was such a lovely day I went for a walk around Graves Is=
land.=0AToday being rainy I can make a note about it.=0AThe tide was out - =
just a little shell ice on the shore. Walking around the shore is cobble al=
l the way and not too fast - took about 3 hrs but I stopped a few times to =
observe and didn't rush. There are graded paths on the Island - I'm saving =
them for when I get older!=0AThere was a couple of lobster boats out tendin=
g the traps. I couldn't see if they were getting any but it was a nice day =
for lobstering. The gulls were appreciating their efforts.=0AGrebes are dow=
n to 3 or 4 Horned - no Red necked. They seem to move away in the winter an=
d come back in late March. maybe earlier this year we'll see. They were div=
ing - travelling quite a distance under water and coming up again. I'm not =
sure what they feed on.=A0=0AAt one point I saw a Herring Gull flying along=
and suddenly dive down to the water. Water flew and when I looked with the=
binos there was a loon there and the two were fighting over the loons catc=
h - looked like a crab - I don't know who won, the gull, the loon or the cr=
ab! The loon then dove and came up a little latter about 200 meters away em=
pty billed. The gull immediately flew to the spot but the loon dove again a=
nd came up another 200 m away.=0AThe gull again flew over but the loon dove=
again - the gull got discouraged and turned and flew away to harass someon=
e else. It is interesting the loons and grebes dive and come up a piece awa=
y while Old Squaw and Bufflehead ducks dive and come up nearly in the same =
spot. Due to the difference in food preferences I guess.=0AThere was also a=
few Red Breasted Mergansers but only drakes. Close to shore.=A0=0APerhaps =
24 Herring Gulls but they fly around so much and with the lobster activity =
it is hard to get an accurate number. No Black Backed Gulls seen. They must=
now be feeding on the bare ground up country. They soon will be gathering =
at their nesting colonies.=0AA King fisher flew across at one point. They h=
ave good fishing - at least no ice to bother them. Not usual for Feb.=0ALot=
s of other interesting things also - a great day.=0AEnjoy the rain=0APaul
